Two teenagers were shot and killed in Inkster early Sunday morning.
Around 4:50 a.m., Inkster police responded to the 26000 block of Penn to a report of a gunshot victim, according to an Inkster Police press release.
Within minutes, officers began lifesaving measures on a 17-year-old male until EMS transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While canvassing the area, Inkster and the Michigan State police found a blood trail leading to a backyard on the same block, where a firearm was recovered, police said.
A second gunshot victim, a 15-year-old male, was also discovered nearby and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, reviewing surveillance video, interviewing witnesses, and reconstructing the events.
"The Inkster Police Department is deeply saddened by this tragic incident that resulted in the loss of two young lives," Inkster Police Chief Tamkia Jenkins said in a statement. "Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the families of both victims as they face unimaginable loss."
